Jay Cutler
One week after signing off on his collegiate career, Jay Cutler has signed with an agent.  The former Vanderbilt quarterback will be represented by Bus Cook, who is also the agent for Titans quarterback Steve McNair and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

Cutler spent time with Cook this weekend in Nashville and made the decision Sunday.  "He's got a lot of experience with quarterbacks and was a lawyer before becoming an agent, so he knows contracts," Cutler said. "He's obviously been around for a long time, so his knowledge of NFL teams and coaches and GMs is great. He has the ability to walk into NFL teams' offices and be able to talk. I just felt really comfortable with him as well.”

Cutler said he had his list narrowed down to about five agents before deciding on Cook.  Cutler added that the process of selecting an agent was more stressful and intrusive than when he was being recruited by colleges.  "It's worse. A lot of the agents have no regard for your privacy," Cutler said. "They'll call as many times as it takes. If you hit the ignore button on your phone 100 times, they'll call 101 times. It's a big relief. I think I made a good decision."

Cook is known for having good relationships with NFL owners and general managers. Despite having a small stable of clients — albeit high-profile ones — Cook has made history with his negotiations.  As Favre's agent, Cook negotiated the first $100 million contract in NFL history, making the Green Bay quarterback the highest-paid player in the league at the time.  McNair was also the highest-paid rookie in NFL history when his first contract was signed, according to Cook's Web site.

Cutler finished his Vandy career holding every significant quarterbacking record. Draft experts project Cutler to go as high as the early second round.
